Unit IV: Chemical Kinetics (10 Periods) This section delves into the rate of reactions, encompassing both average and instantaneous rates, and the factors influencing reaction rates, including concentration, temperature, and catalysts. It also addresses concepts such as the order and molecularity of reactions, rate laws, specific rate constants, integrated rate equations, and half-life (limited to zero and first-order reactions). Additionally, it introduces the basics of collision theory without mathematical treatment, the concept of activation energy, and the Arrhenius equation.
Unit VIII: d and f Block Elements (12 Periods) This unit provides an overview of d and f block elements, including their electronic configurations, occurrences, and characteristics. It covers general trends in properties, such as metallic character, ionisation enthalpy, oxidation states, ionic radii, colour, catalytic properties, magnetic properties, interstitial compounds, alloy formation, and the preparation and characteristics of K2Cr2O7 and KMnO4. Furthermore, it explores the lanthanides, focusing on electronic configurations, oxidation states, chemical reactivity, and the lanthanoid contraction. It also compares actinides with lanthanide, examining electronic configurations and oxidation states.
Unit IX: Coordination Compounds (12 Periods) This unit introduces coordination compounds, including topics like ligands, coordination numbers, colour, magnetic properties, shapes, IUPAC nomenclature for mononuclear coordination compounds, bonding theories such as Werner's theory, VBT, and CFT. It also covers structure and stereoisomerism and emphasises the significance of coordination compounds in qualitative analysis, metal extraction, and biological systems.
Unit X: Haloalkanes and Haloarenes (10 Periods) In this section, we explore haloalkanes and haloarenes, discussing nomenclature, the nature of the C–X bond, physical and chemical properties, optical rotation, and substitution mechanisms. We also examine the directive influence of halogens in monosubstituted compounds and their uses and environmental effects. Specifically, we consider dichloromethane, trichloromethane, tetrachloromethane, iodoform, freons, and DDT.
Unit XI: Alcohols, Phenols, and Ethers (10 Periods) This unit covers alcohols, phenols, and ethers, detailing their nomenclature, preparation methods, physical and chemical properties (primarily focusing on primary alcohols), and the identification of primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohols. We explore the mechanisms of dehydration and emphasise the applications of methanol and ethanol. Additionally, we address phenols, covering their nomenclature, preparation, properties, acidic nature, electrophilic substitution reactions, and uses. Lastly, we delve into ethers, discussing their nomenclature, preparation, properties, and practical applications.
Unit XII: Aldehydes, Ketones, and Carboxylic Acids (10 Periods) In this unit, we delve into aldehydes, ketones, and carboxylic acids, covering their nomenclature, the characteristics of the carbonyl group, preparation methods, physical and chemical properties, mechanisms of nucleophilic addition, and the reactivity of alpha hydrogens in aldehydes. Furthermore, we explore carboxylic acids, including their nomenclature, acidic properties, preparation methods, physical and chemical characteristics, and practical uses.
Unit XIII: Amines (10 Periods) The topic of amines encompasses their nomenclature, classification, structure, preparation methods, physical and chemical properties, practical applications, and the differentiation of primary, secondary, and tertiary amines. Additionally, we explore diazonium salts, covering their preparation, chemical reactions, and their significance in synthetic organic chemistry.
Unit XIV: Biomolecules (12 Periods) This unit focuses on biomolecules, beginning with carbohydrates. We discuss their classification, including aldoses and ketoses, and delve into monosaccharides such as glucose and fructose. We also explore D-L configurations and oligosaccharides (e.g., sucrose, lactose, maltose) and polysaccharides (e.g., starch, cellulose, glycogen), emphasising the importance of carbohydrates. The unit then shifts to proteins, introducing amino acids, peptide bonds, polypeptides, and the structural hierarchy of proteins, including primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary structures (with a qualitative overview).     • Determining the enthalpy of neutralisation of hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH).

    • Determining the enthalpy change during the interaction (hydrogen bond formation) between Acetone and Chloroform.

Electrochemistry

  • Exploration of cell potential variation in Zn/Zn²⁺|| Cu²⁺/Cu with changes in the concentration of electrolytes (CuSO₄ or ZnSO₄) at room temperature.

Chromatography

  • Separation of pigments from leaf and flower extracts using paper chromatography and calculating Rf values.

  • Separation of constituents in an inorganic mixture containing two cations with substantial differences in Rf values.

Preparation of Inorganic Compounds

  • Preparation of a double salt of Ferrous Ammonium Sulphate or Potash Alum.

  • Preparation of Potassium Ferric Oxalate.

Preparation of Organic Compounds

  • Preparation of one of the following compounds:

    • Acetanilide.

    • Di-benzalAcetone.

    • p-Nitroacetanilide.

    • Aniline yellow.
