1. लेखक को नवाब साहब के किन हाव-भावों से महसूस हुआ कि वे उनसे बातचीत करने के लिए तनिक भी उत्सुक नहीं हैं ?
उत्तर:- लेखक के अचानक डिब्बे में कूद पड़ने से नवाब-साहब की आँखों में एकांत चिंतन में खलल पड़ जाने का असंतोष दिखाई दिया। ट्रेन में लेखक के साथ बात-चीत करने के लिए नवाब साहब ने कोई उत्साह नहीं प्रकट किया। लेखक से कोई बातचीत भी नहीं की और न ही उनकी तरफ देखा। इससे लेखक को स्वयं के प्रति नवाब साहब की उदासीनता का आभास हुआ।
2. नवाब साहब ने बहुत ही यत्न से खीरा काटा, नमक-मिर्च बुरका, अंतत: सूँघकर ही खिड़की से बाहर फेंक दिया। उन्होंने ऐसा क्यों किया होगा ? उनका ऐसा करना उनके कैसे स्वभाव को इंगित करता है?
उत्तर:- नवाब साहब द्वारा दिए गए खीरा खाने के प्रस्ताव को लेखक ने अस्वीकृत कर दिया। खीरे को खाने की इच्छा तथा सामने वाले यात्री के सामने अपनी झूठी साख बनाए रखने के उलझन में नवाब साहब ने खीरा खाने की सोची परन्तु जीत नवाब के दिखावे की हुई। और इसी इरादे से नवाब साहब ने खीरा सूँघ कर फेंक दिया ।

रचना और अभिव्यक्ति
5.1 नवाब साहब द्वारा खीरा खाने की तैयारी करने का एक चित्र प्रस्तुत किया गया है। इस पूरी प्रक्रिया को अपने शब्दों में व्यक्त कीजिए।
उत्तर:- सेकंड क्लास के एकांत डिब्बे में बैठे नवाब साहब खीरा खाने की इच्छा से दो ताज़े खीरे एक तौलिए पर रखे हुए थे। पहले तो उन्होंने खीरे को खिड़की से बाहर निकालकर लोटे के पानी से धोया और तौलिए से साफ़ कर पानी सुखा लिया जेब से चाकू निकाला। दोनों खीरों के सिर काटे और उन्हें गोद कर झाग निकाला। फिर खीरों को बहुत सावधानी से छीलकर फाँको पर बहुत कायदे से जीरा, नमक-मिर्च की सुर्खी बुरक दी। इसके बाद एक-एक करके उन फाँको को उठाते गए और उन्हें सूँघकर खिड़की से बाहर फेंकते गए।
5.2 किन-किन चीज़ों का रसास्वादन करने के लिए आप किस प्रकार की तैयारी करते हैं?
उत्तर:- हम खीर का रसास्वादन करने के लिए उसे अच्छी तरह से एक कटोरी में रखते हैं तथा उसके ऊपर काजू, किशमिश, बादाम और पिस्ता डालकर अच्छी तरह से उसे सजाते हैं और फिर उसका स्वाद लेते हैं।

The Train Journey
The writer once boarded a second-class compartment of a local train. He thought it would be empty, but inside he found a nobleman from a Lucknowi family sitting comfortably.
The Nobleman’s Presence
In front of the nobleman, two fresh cucumbers were kept on a towel. He looked unhappy when the writer entered, as if someone had disturbed his privacy. The writer also felt that the nobleman was embarrassed because people from rich families usually travelled in first class, not second class.
To pass the time, the nobleman started washing, peeling and cutting the cucumbers. He added some salt and red chili to them. The way he looked at the slices showed how much he wanted to eat them.
The nobleman asked the writer to eat the cucumber, but the writer politely refused. It was clear that the nobleman himself was very eager to eat.
