Seasons of the Year

Seasons of the year happen because the Earth moves around the Sun. As the Earth moves, different parts of it get sunlight in different amounts. This is why sometimes we feel hot, and sometimes it feels cold or windy. These changes in weather are called seasons. There are mainly four types of seasons in India, which are spring, summer, autumn (also called fall), and winter.

Each of these seasons of the year brings different changes in the weather and environment. Learning about the seasons of India is important for kids, as it helps them understand how nature and weather change with time. So, keep reading to know more about the seasons of India.

What Causes the Four Seasons of the Year?

The seasons of the year change because of how the Earth moves around the Sun. Let’s understand the causes of the seasons of the year:

The Earth’s Tilt and Its Orbit

The Earth is not standing straight but slightly tilted on its axis by about 23.5 degrees. As the Earth moves around the Sun, this tilt makes different parts of the Earth receive different amounts of sunlight. This is the main reason why we have four seasons of the year: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

How the Tilt Causes Each Season

  • Summer: When the part of the Earth where we live tilts towards the Sun, we get more direct sunlight and longer days. The weather becomes hot and bright.

  • Winter: When our part of the Earth tilts away from the Sun, we get less sunlight and shorter days. The air feels cold, and this brings winter.

  • Spring and Autumn (Fall): During these seasons, the Earth is not tilted much towards or away from the Sun. Both day and night are almost equal in length. The weather feels nice in spring, and it slowly becomes cooler in autumn.

Four Seasons for Kids

The seasons of the year make nature look different every few months. Each season has its own weather, colours, and changes. Let’s learn about the four seasons for kids in a simple way.

1. Spring

In the spring season, the weather becomes pleasant, and flowers bloom. Trees start to grow new green leaves, and the days slowly start getting longer than usual. Sometimes, it rains and the wind feels soft and a bit cool.

2. Summer

Summer is the hottest season of the year. The sun shines bright, and the days become hotter and longer. In summer, kids enjoy eating ice cream and drinking cold juices to stay cool.

Trees are full of green leaves, and children enjoy playing outside in the sunlight, and people also go on trips to enjoy summer vacations.

3. Autumn or Fall

Autumn is the season when the weather starts to cool down. The leaves on the trees change their colour to yellow, red, or brown and slowly fall to the ground. It is also called the harvest season because many crops are ready to be picked. The air feels calm and fresh during this time.

4. Winter

Winter is the coldest season of the year. The days become short, and the nights are long. People wear warm clothes, such as sweaters and jackets. In some places, it snows, while in others, it rains. Families enjoy sitting near warm fires and drinking hot soups or tea.

Each of these seasons of the year makes our surroundings look beautiful in its own way and helps us see how nature keeps changing throughout the year.
