CBSE Class 10 Board Exam is usually held in February or March by the Central Board of Secondary Education. Competency-Based Assessment

Competency-focused inquiries will make up 30% of the total question set. This section is expected to include diagram-based questions and assertion and reasoning-based questions.

The objective-type questions may fall into the following categories:

Subjective Questions

The subjective questions encompass both long-form and short-form questions, primarily centred on conceptual and theoretical content. These questions will account for the highest proportion of 50% of the examination paper. Unlike the class 12 board examinations, the class 10 assessment will feature very brief, short, lengthy, and case-study-style questions.

Changes in CBSE Marking Scheme 2023-2023 Class 10

The adjustments in the question paper format of CBSE show an increased emphasis on competency-based questions and multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Consequently, there will be fewer questions of the short and long answer type in comparison to previous years' examinations.

The Board is introducing potential modifications in the examination and assessment procedures for the academic session of 2023-24, aligning with the recommendations outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020.

The key components of the CBSE 10th-grade examination pattern for 2024 are as follows:

• Competency-focused questions, which may be in the form of MCQs, case-based questions, source-based integrated questions, or other similar types, will constitute 50% of the assessment.

• Select response type questions, specifically MCQs, will account for 20% of the assessment.

• Constructed response questions, including both short answer and long answer type questions, following the existing format, will make up 30% of the examination.

CBSE Marking Scheme 2023-2024 Class 10 Maths

This examination paper is divided into two main parts, Part A and Part B.

Part A:

• Part A is further divided into two sections, Section I and Section II.

• Section I comprises 16 questions, with the option of selecting 5 questions out of these.

• Section II includes four case study-based questions, each containing 5 sub-parts based on different case scenarios. Out of the 5 sub-parts, candidates are required to attempt any 4.

Part B:

In Part B of the examination paper:

• Questions 21 to 26 are designated as Very Short Answer Type questions, each carrying 2 marks.

• Questions 27 to 33 are categorised as Short Answer Type questions, each worth 3 marks.

• Questions 34 to 36 are considered as Long Answer Type questions, carrying 5 marks each.

• Internal choice options are available for 2 questions with 2 marks each, 2 questions with 3 marks each, and 1 question with 5 marks.

Competency-Based Questions

A significant portion, 40% of the questions, will be competency-based. The objective of competency-based education (CBE) is to assess students' mastery of specific competencies within each subject. These questions may take the form of multiple-choice questions, case-based queries, source-based integrated questions, or other types. They might also be integrated into case-based or source-based inquiries.

Objective-Type Questions

Approximately 20% of the questions will fall into the category of objective-type questions. These include sub-categories like:

Subjective Type Questions

40% of the questions will be subjective in nature, requiring either short or long answers. Generally, CBSE will not pose open-ended questions with very brief responses. Instead, the majority of subjective questions will be of the short or long answer type.

Class 12 Passing Criteria

The passing requirements for CBSE class 12 remain consistent with previous standards. To pass:

• A student must secure at least 33% overall.

• A minimum of 33% in both theory and practical papers is mandatory.

• The total marks obtained should be a minimum of 33% of the maximum attainable.

• If a student achieves 33% overall but falls short of 33% in any particular subject, they must take a compartment test.

• The combined score is calculated from the results of theory and practical papers.

• Grace points are awarded on a scale of two to five as part of the evaluation process.
